about

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Castenada (Arno Dhooghe) is an electronic music composer based in Ghent, Belgium. He produces contemporary/ experimental/ electronic music influenced by the night time / noise / coffee / art / science / the quiet hours / the mind / sunlight & words. A lot of emphasis is on the occurring of chance, dense atmosphere and textures. Uniqueness and originality is an important part of his music which is often composed using bits of samples and field-recordings combined with software synths and a lot of effects and reverb...

ABOUT THE TRACK:

The tracks starts with a gentle footstep-loop-sample (hence the title: Walks) accompanied by this 'haunting low-end growl' to express a possible underlying danger. These events are emphasised by the atonal piano coming through. The atonality is made even more apparent because of the strange granular delay-effects. Then a synth layer is mixed in to add more depth and drama to create a very dense and dark atmosphere. The atmosphere gets a little more hopeful and light until this textured beat kicks in creating an intricate, glitchy rhythm. Finally that rhythmic, percussive loop is combined with the piano and synths to mark the end of the track.
The idea was to create a track which combines classical elements (the piano) with modern day techniques and electronica. This duality is also seen/ heard through the feeling of the track, because at one hand it's dark-gloomy full of nighttime fogs and mystery, while at the other hand some light and hope shines through the dense clouds of atonal fogs.
At least these are my personal thoughts of it. The listeners can decide for themselves how they intrepret the track.
I used a laptop and a midi-keyboard, some effects and DAW's for this track. Software I used was Reason rewired into Ableton. The arrangement/ composition and sampling was done in Reason while the vst-effects, compression, reverb and recording was done in Ableton.
